UPA govt's approach to China weak: BJP

Bangalore (PTI): Slamming the UPA for its "very slack and weak" approach towards China, the BJP on Friday said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his proposed visit to China, should raise the issue of Beijing's "reckless construction activity" in the Himalayan region and Tibet as it would affect India.
BJP President Rajnath Singh told the party national executive meeting here that the approach of the government with regard to China has been "very slack and weak" and ever since UPA has come to power, China has been "continuously exerting pressure" on India.
"The Indian government appears incapable of offering tough resistance on this front", he said.
"China has tried to create a border dispute even in undisputed areas such as Sikkim", he said and referred to repeated Chinese incursions in Sikkim.
Singh said the kind of construction activity that China is undertaking in the Himalayan region and Tibet could adversely impact the environment. "India would be definitely be affected by this."
"But the Indian government is not able to even raise the issue", he said, demanding that the issue of environment of the Himalayan region be raised by the Prime Minister during his China visit.
He said UPA government should make efforts to put ISI in the international terrorist watch list, adding, the Centre is also not being able to take any stringent measures against the terror camps in Bangladesh. |
