6th Session of Tibetan Parliament begins Today

Dharamshala: The members of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile paid solemn tributes all those Tibetan, who sacrificed their lives and are undergoing suffering under the repression and wrong policies of the Chinese government, on the first day of the Parliament's sixth session, which began Monday, 8 September.
A one-minute silence was observed to remember the great sacrifices of hundreds of courageous Tibetan women and men, who sacrificed their lives in the peaceful demonstrations inside Tibet this year.
While addressing the session, Speaker Karma Chophel said the resolution is a clear expression of the Tibetan Parliament's deep concern over the suppression of Tibetan people's rights in Tibet.
Expressing support for the peaceful and non-violent approach of people in Tibet, he said the Tibetan Parliament remain deeply concerned over the continued suppression of Tibetan people's right to speak up against the wrong policies of the Chinese government.
The speaker gave an updated account of important activities of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee- constituted by the Tibetan Parliament and Kashag - in its effort to bring an immediate end to the repression imposed by the Chinese government inside Tibet.
He said the present session will discuss the efforts of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee which is leading all the activities in the exile community in accordance with the policies of the Central Tibetan Administration, under its unified leadership.
Allaying concern over the health of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he said His Holiness is in good health and the doctors have advised him to take a good rests, and asked Tibetans and supporters of Tibetan around the world not to worry.

Meanwhile, he appealed to the Tibetans to continue to engage in concerted efforts to enhance collective merits of the Tibetan people and for the long life of His Holiness.
The members also mourned the demise of former Member of Parliament, Yungdrung Namgyal, who was elected as representative of the Bon school of Tibetan Buddhism, to the sixth and seventh Tibetan Parliament from 5 October 1977.
