Himalayan Committee on Action for Tibet meets to strategize

New Delhi, August 6 - The Himalayan Committee for Action on Tibet (HIMCAT) met in New Delhi today to plan and discuss strategies on activities post Olympics. The Committee has worked tirelessly to organize seminars, demonstrations, peace marches, hunger strikes and conferences on Tibet and the Himalayan belt.

MLA Tsona Rinpoche, former State Minister of Arunachal Pradesh said, "We must talk about strengthening our Committee in order to achieve our goals. It is important to understand the reason behind our existence, our actions and purpose. It is the prime responsibility of everyone here to spread the word and bring it to fore."

Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok said on the occasion, "It is essential for Tibetans and people from the Himalayan strip to interact with each other because we share the same interests. Our goal is to preserve the culture and tradition of these regions."

The Committee reiterated the significance of these communities coming together and learning about each other. It was mentioned that their motive can be attained through unity and a higher indulgence as well as knowledge about their principles and intentions.

The Committee aims to

• Work towards saving the civilization and culture of the Tibetan race and those across the Himalayan region.
• Create awareness on the importance of religion and tradition of Tibet and that in the Himalayas.
• Garner political support and actively campaign for Tibet and its people.

In view of the current crisis in Tibet and the Beijing Olympics just two days away, the Committee is anxious about what will happen to those inside Tibet once the Games are over and the focus of the world shifts from Beijing. The Committee will draw an action plan on campaigns to be launched post Olympics.
