CALL FOR
TIBETAN YOUTH

By: Tenzin Khepahk
The uprising against the Chinese rule was ruthlessly cracked down and suppressed in March 1959. The historical event culminated into the exodus fleeing of Tibetans into exile India. Amidst tensed and uncertain circumstances a large crowd of Tibetan masses surrounded and guarded the famed Norbulinga Palace barring the Dalai Lama to leave the residence for a Chinese cultural show at Chinese military headquarter. However, the great fourteenth Dalai Lama escaped the trap laid down by People’s Liberation Army on 10 pm of the17th March 1959. For full story...

THE IDIOMS OF IDIOTIC LIFE

By: Tenzin Dhadon Sharling / Tibetoday

25 years hence, parents can zealously give their mandate on the baby’s hair colour, eyes even before the foetus is developed. (Courtesy: ABC ) Thus the essence of genetic inheritance and resemblance is dished out relentlessly and might as well become a trend of the yore. The alleged Midas touch of Science doesn’t seem to spare even the phoenix of human beings from its affectations. So is this a boon or a bane of science? Truly, freedom is about thought.  For full story...

MY KIND CHINESE TEACHER

By: Palchen Dorjee / Tibetoday
I really hope I am not making a breach of conduct by describing my Chinese teacher in glowing terms. Sometimes our judgments are blinded by political differences, not every Chinese is a monstrous dragon as with our pre-conceived notion often suggest. However, a story of my Chinese teacher had completely altered my impression of Chinese being evil and wicket. In this article I would like to share my encounter with a Chinese teacher who taught me many virtues. For full story...

PROTEST POWER
A people’s power that is once again revitalising the Tibetan freedom movement

By: Tenzin Tsundue

Before it happened our Superintendent of Police, Kangra District, called me to his office twice and tried to advise me to keep silent. He even told some senior exile Tibetan government officials to counsel me. And when everything failed he slapped an official detention order on me saying that I couldn’t leave the hill town of Dharamsala for 14 days ─ ‘till the tension had subsided in India’s capital.
Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China, was visiting India and the host government had to somehow keep me away from the scene of their diplomatic display of friendship and desire for business contracts ─ fearing I might repeat my protest stunts by breaching security and inviting myself to their banquet table shouting “FREE TIBET”. A Quiet Reflection in Scotland

By: Tenzin Dhadon Sharling / Tibetoday

“The greatest sorrow on earth is the loss of one’s own land,” said His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Ever since the unfolding of the Chinese wrath, approximately 1.2 million Tibetans were killed, which the Chinese Communist Party denies. “Estimate is not reliable because the Tibetans were not able to process the data well enough to produce a credible total. There were, however, many casualties, perhaps as many as 400,000”, French Patrick, 2003. With 6000 monasteries destroyed, the religious repression saw the mysterious death of the 10th Panchen Lama and continues to witness the frivolous mind games that China plays with the missing 11th Panchen Lama.

Solitary Surviving: A PERSONAL ACCOUNT

By: Dhadon Sharling / Tibetoday
June issue 2007: S
ince time immemorial, it has hit my conscience that we are human beings and what sets us apart from the other social animals is that we live in a human society where we are not just interdependent but our every little action effects the other individual and likewise the larger society that we live in, which I would prefer to call it as the human family. This global family finds dimensions in terms of space, distance and cultural differences. “The Human being is a dynamic, interactive event in evolution”. Click here to read more...

Difficulties in Sino - Indian ties come to fore
By: Indrani Bagchi & Saibal Dasgupta, Times News Network
T
he refusal of visa by China to an Arunachal IAS officer incident has raised questions about the “political parameters” worked out by the PM and Chinese premier Wen Jiabao in 2005 and the border talks which have gone through seven rounds. China is aware that India is simply not amenable to giving up populated areas, leave alone a state. But India’s giant neighbour could be leveraging its position after construction of the Tibet railway and border roads. Click here to read more...

Relevance of Buddhism

By: Prof. Swami Buddhanand

July issue 2007: Today everyone wants long life and Happy life but at the same time does not want to know the riddle of life and does not know how to build their life within the social norms. A great thinker said, “ Unexplained life is not worth-living. Many want to live happily but with the ignorance of actual life. Another great thinker said “ it is better to be unborn rather than taught by ignorance”. Click here to read more...

The Stream of Conscience

By: Chapdrak Lhamo Kyab
July issue 2007: EVERY TIME THE BALMY WIND breezed past the capacity crowd at the Tsuglakhang, it lured a moment of their attention towards the mundane world outside the blissful mass. Tucked nicely at the feet of Dauladhar ranges, its fine architecture offering a majestic sight, the main cathedral at McLeod Gunj is specious enough to accommodate thousands of people.
