Orientation course for new Tibetan MPs in Dharamsala

DHARAMSHALA -- The New Delhi-based Tibetan parliamentary and policy research centre (TPPRC) has organized a five-day orientation course on Tuesday for the newly-elected members of the 15th Tibetan parliament in exile here from September 10 to 15.

ChoekyongWangchuk, an MP and the executive director of the TPPRC, had said the orientation aims to enhance the Tibetan parliamentarians' understanding and knowledge about the parliamentary regulations and procedures, policies and workings of the central Tibetan administration and activities of the institutions here among other important issues.

"The members would be briefed about the parliamentary regulations and procedures, workings of the parliamentary standing committee, the charter for Tibetans in exile, the basic education policy, the socio-economic condition and sustenance of the Tibetan settlements and co-operative societies in exile, " Wangchuk said.

There would be briefings about the human rights situation inside Tibet and political structure of China, he added. As part of the ongoing course, the MPs on Wednesday visited various departments and offices of the central Tibetan administration, starting from the department of information & international relations (DIIR).

Tashi, additional secretary of DIIR, made a detailed presentation about the activities of the department, following which the MPs were taken for a short visit to different sections of the department. The MPs also made queries about the workings of the department.

Meanwhile, Tenzin Lhundup, a Tibetan law graduate, has been appointed as the local Tibetan justice commissioner for northern India on Wednesday. The former local Tibetan justice commissioner for northern India was Norpa Tsering Norbu. Tenzin Lhundup (LL.B) has served the Tibetan supreme justice commission in various capacities.
