KATHMANDU: Nepal today assured China that it will not allow pro-Dalai Lama activists to engage in anti-Beijing activities, as the Communist giant mounted pressure on its southern neighbour to reign in Tibetan elements.

Nepalese Prime Minister Prachanda renewed his government’s commitment to “One China” policy during a meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation, which raised concerns over the wide scale protests witnessed last year following a military crackdown in Tibet.

“Nepal is fully committed towards its one-China policy,” Prachanda reassured the visiting Chinese foreign delegation during a meeting this morning, Prime Minister’s Press Adviser Om Sharma said.

The delegation led by Liu Hongchai, deputy head of the Chinese Communist Party’s Foreign Relations Department, is here to attend the eighth general convention of ruling coalition partner, CPN-UML, which will start tomorrow.

Prachanda made the remarks after the visiting Chinese delegation expressed concern over anti-China activities being launched in Nepal by Tibetan refugees. The delegation also assured the Prime Minister that China was eager to help Nepal in the peace process.
