New York : A group of Chinese from the mainland China met with Tibetan officials at the Office of Tibet in New York to exchange their views and learn about the issue of Tibet on 17 August.
The visit was coordinated by the president of a US-based Chinese democratic organisation, Mr Tang Yun Jung. He led a group of 8 Chinese nationals from mainland China , who are residing in New York .
Despite their concern for the issue of Tibet , our Chinese friends have no means to learn clearly about the issue in China , said Mr Kunga Tashi, who manages coordination with the Chinese people at the Office of Tibet.
Mr Tashi briefed the Chinese visitors about the mutually beneficial solution of “Middle-Way Approach” for resolving the issue of Tibet . They were also briefed about the activities of the Office of Tibet.
The Chinese group took special interest in learning about the dialogue process between the Chinese government and the envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama during a briefing by Mr Tsewang Phuntso, a member of the Task Force on Sino-Tibetan negotiations, he said.
Some the Chinese expressed their doubts about the issue of “Greater Tibet” and what rights will the Chinese people living in Tibet get once the issue of Tibet is resolved through the Middle-Way Approach. They also asked that in accordance to the demand for genuine autonomy for the Tibetan people under one administration, what name would be designated to that administration.
They said they support the Middle-Way Approach advocated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. However, they sought to clear their divergent views on the demand for genuine autonomy for the entire Tibetan areas under one single administration.
So, we tried to clear the doubts raised by our Chinese friends during the meeting, Mr Tashi said.
Mr Tashi thanked the Chinese group for their to visit the Office of Tibet and said they would always welcome more Chinese visitors.
He reiterated to them His Holiness the Dalai Lama's emphasis on the need for frequent meetings and exchanging views with Chinese friends.
The Chinese group were given important Chinese language publications on Tibet and reports posted in the Chinese version of the Cental Tibetan Administration's official website.
The representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the US could not attend the meeting as he was on an official visit to Toronto , Canada .
“We feel we had a very active and meaningful two and a half hours of meeting,” said Mr Kunga Tashi.
