MP Gyalrong Dawa Tsering dies

Mecloed Ganj, India-- Three-time member of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, Gyalrong Dawa Tsering, representing Amdo province, died from a heart attack. He was 59. He is survived by his wife and children.

He suffered the heart attack a few days ago and was brought to a hospital in Chandigarh where he died.

The House was adjourned in the afternoon and the members held a prayer session to pay homage to the deceased. The House will officially pass a resolution of condolence on Thursday, Tenzin Norbu, the spokesperson of the parliamentary secretariat, told tibet.net.

Gyalrong Dawa Tsering was born 1952 in Tsona in northeastern Tibet. After coming into exile in India, he joined the Tibetan army Establishment 22, a unit under the Indian military, for 26 years from 1969 to 1994.

He served the Tibetan community in various capacities including as a member of Parliament for three terms. He had been serving as a Standing Committee member of the 15th Parliament.
