Kalon Tripa to Pay Homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 61st Death Anniversary

Kalon Tripa will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi

Dharamshala: Kalon Tripa Prof Samdhong Rinpoche will attend an all-religious prayer meeting to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 61st death anniversary at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on 30 January. He will also address the prayer gathering. Representatives from different religious faiths will take part will join the prayer service.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, also known as the 'Father of the Nation', spent his life for the cause of freeing India from the British, rule by using nobel means of non-violence and truth or satyagraha. He passed away on 30 January 1948, leaving to this world an inspiring legacy of of non-violence, truth, simplicity and care for the poor and downtrodden. His message of non-violence and truth has inspired leaders like His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the former South African President Nelson Mandela.

Kalon Tripa will leave Dharamshala Wednesday evening for official visits to Gujarat, Nagpur and New Delhi.

At the invitation of the Nagpur-based International Centre for Cultural Studies (ICCS), Kalon Tripa will inaugurate a six-day symposium on “Renaissance of Ancient Traditions: Challenges and Solution”, from 31 January to 5 February.

This conference will be ICCS's third international conference and gathering of elders, which is expected to be attended by delegates from more than 50 countries. The first conference was started in 2003 at Mumbai, followed by the second at Jaipur in 2006.

In New Delhi, Kalon Tripa will meet with officials of the Indian government.

Kalon Tripa will be back in his office on 3 February.
