Dharamshala: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived this morning at Thoise Airbase in Nubra Valley in Ladakh in the north India state of Jammu & Kashmir, where representatives of the local administration and monastic officials warmly received him.
The officials who welcomed His Holiness include Thiksey Rinpoche, representatives from Ladakh Buddhist Association, MLAs, deputy commissioner and superintendent of police.
Thousands of local residents and devotees from different parts of the world, attired in their best traditional costumes, were seen lined on both sides of the road from the airport to Samtenling monastery to accord warm welcome to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
His Holiness then left the airport for Samtenling Monastery in Sumur Village , located at a distance of some 50 km . His Holiness was received at the monastery by His Eminence the Gaden Tripa, Kalon for the Department of Security, members of Local Tibetan Assembly, Tibetan Settlement Officer and members of Bod-Rawang Denpe Legul Tsokchung and director of TCV school.
His Eminence the Gaden Tripa, accompanied by the monastery's abbot, ushered His Holiness the Dalai Lama inside the monastery.

Coinciding with His Holiness the Dalai Lama's visit, the Tibetan Medical & Astro Institute has deputed a team of doctors led by Dr Yeshi Dorjee to conduct medical camps in Samtenling and Thiksey monasteries in Nubra valley. The medical team included a senior doctor from Men Tsee Khang in Dharamsala along with a resident doctor and an assistant.
Dr Dorjee said Men-Tsee Khang usually organises medical camps to avail the people living in remote areas in Ladakh with consultation and Tibetan medicines.
This is His Holiness the Dalai Lama's fifth visit to Nubra Valley in Ladakh. The first visit was in September 1970 during which His Holiness gave initiations and teachings in Samtenling monastery, inculcating the seed of Buddhist values in the hearts of people living in the region.
